The Barton Reading & Spelling System is an Orton-Gillingham influenced program designed for struggling readers. Trained tutors work one-on-one, at your pace.
What is the Barton Reading & Spelling Program?
Designed for school-aged children, youth, and adults with reading challenges or disabilities such as dyslexia, the Barton Reading Program enhances reading, writing, and spelling skills through personalized one-on-one tutoring.
The program uses the proven Orton-Gillingham method — a multi-sensory approach that teaches the phonemic structure of English by engaging visual, auditory, tactile, and kinesthetic senses. It's a holistic learning experience that works.

How registration works
Intake
Download and complete our intake form, and submit it to us by email, mail or in person.

Intake Meeting
Once we receive your form, we’ll follow up with a confirmation and guide you through the next steps in the onboarding process.
2.
Term Registration
Before each term, current and waitlisted families return a registration form. Returning students have priority placement.
3.
Weekly sessions
Two 55-minute sessions per week, with the same tutor, same day and time for the full term.

What to know
SCHEDULE
Two 55-minute sessions per week.
Offered 7 days a week, afternoons and evenings.
COST
$40.00 per session, plus a one-time $75.00 administration fee. Subsidies are available — reach out if cost is a concern.
FORMAT
In person at 609 Erin Street in Winnipeg or Maryland Park School (Brandon)
Online via Zoom (PC required for remote access)
APPROACH
One-on-One instruction. Barton is a multi-level program. Most students stay with us for 2 - 3 years.
